You're feeling frazzled, all you want is a decent coffee and 2 minutes peace. But where do you risk taking the kids out for lunch without feeling 'The Scorn'? We all know what that means right? Here are some tried, tested (and tested some more) local Manchester venues that you can be sure will give any parent a decent meal, coffee and cake and your kids will love them too!

It’s fair to say that Rocket and Orange is fully established on the Manchester mum scene as the ultimate family-friendly café. As you will find out if you head down on a Friday afternoon (AKA yummy mummy rush hour). The food is superb; the staff are wonderful; there’s a lego table, mini kitchen, giant Connect 4, football table… the list goes on. In fact there’s so much to keep the littleuns entertained that you might even finish your flat white while it’s still hot. Rocket and Orange, you are out of this world!

If you’re mooching around Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter and wanna hang out with the hipster kids then get yourself to Yard and Coop for some good old fashioned fried chicken. This neck of the woods is not particularly known for its family friendliness but I’m always impressed with how welcoming the guys are at Yard and Coop. Lego and crayons are on hand if you need them, but just sitting in this Fantastic Mr Fox inspired chicken shack is entertainment enough. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

I don’t often, or ever, use the words ‘lovingly restored’ and ‘kid-friendly’ in the same sentence but here goes... The team at Javes have lovingly restored a beautiful old Co-op building and transformed it into a stylish kid-friendly café. With plenty of space, vintage tiles and delicious cakes, this is a gorgeous spot for a mother’s meeting, and perfect Instagram fodder. Check out their Javes Kids Corner Facebook page for upcoming events. Oh and tiny rail enthusiasts should head down for brekkie on Sunday morning then blow off some steam at Abbotsfield Park Minature Railway just a 10 minute walk away. Weather permitting of course, this is Manchester after all.
